What Are the Cambridge Exams?

The Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) exams are globally recognised qualifications taken by students in over 160 countries. Cambridge Exam Registration are available here at The International School of Cape Town. These include:

  • Cambridge O Level – Designed for students aged 14 to 16, Cambridge O Level is equivalent to the GCSE and follows a structured, exam-based format. It is commonly offered in regions such as Asia and Africa, with syllabuses adapted to suit local educational contexts.
  • IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) – Also for students aged 14–16, offering a flexible and global approach.
  • Cambridge International AS & A Levels – Advanced qualifications for students aged 16–19, accepted for university entry worldwide.

Cambridge qualifications are recognised by universities and employers around the world, providing students with a strong foundation for further education, career opportunities, and global mobility. As a result, The International School of Cape Town accepts Cambridge Exam Registrations from private and/or external students.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  1. What is the difference between IGCSE and A Levels?
  • IGCSE is typically for students aged 14–16 (Grades 9–10), while A Levels are for ages 16–19 (Grades 11–12). A Levels are more advanced and prepare students for university.
  1. Can my child register privately without being enrolled in a school?
  • Yes. Many Cambridge centres accept private candidates. Ensure you find an approved Cambridge centre.
  1. What are the costs for each exam?
  • Fees vary by subject and centre. Contact your local centre for a detailed fee structure.
  1. What happens if my child misses an exam?
  • You must contact the exam centre immediately. Depending on the circumstances, they may apply for “special consideration,” but a full reschedule may not be possible.
  1. How can we prepare for the exams?
  • Use official Cambridge past papers, mark schemes, syllabuses, and revision guides. Many online platforms and tutors also offer preparation.
  1. Can results be appealed?
  • Yes. There’s a process for “enquiry about results” (EAR) if you believe your child’s paper was not marked accurately.
